The Flag House........... Het Vlaggenhuisje

The last block is finished!!!
The British flag was fun to do, although a bit fiddly, and of course not like the pattern. The sun looks a bit strange, but he is missing his sunbeams. I can't put them on until all the blocks are together.

But look and see what else I did this afternoon?

And here another corner of three blocks together...

Later on I shall applique sunbeams and stars. Strange really, all in the same quilt..! But then, in quilts everything is possible. The cars have to wait until the road has been sewn on. And I have to go to the quiltshop tomorrow to buy fabric for that..!
The weather has been beautiful here the last few days, so my dearest and I went to some farms. (my husband's hobby is filming agriculture)..

It was lovely to walk in the fields again... and I could not resist taking this photo. She was really posing..!

To work now on the sunbeams!
Tomorrow I shall go blog-hopping, and see what you have all been up to.
Have a nice day.

groetjes,
Jane

A cosy House......Een gezellig Huisje

This looks like a fun house to live in. Come to think of it, it does remind me of our house. Nice extra roof for a veranda, high conifers where the wind blows through, and a lovely quilt-room with a nice view, what else does one need?

Oh, and of course the 'grannies' as we call them, our lovely grandchildren, looking out of the windows....

So, now I have started on the last house, but there are soooo many windows,  I counted at least 13!
perhaps I could try the sewing machine method again...surely it can't be that difficult?...

Three hours later... perhaps it is.... for me, anyway. The house will be too narrow, so take off some walls, and substitute wider fabrics....
Fortunately, there is Mr. SeamRipper, always very helpful...

Drie uur later... nee dus!
How do I get into such a state? Perhaps my brains are only geared up for applique... I don't suppose my ruler is faulty...? If only I lived in Holland, I would go and visit someone who makes beautiful quilts on the machine, for example Jeannet..... She could do with some cheering up anyway...
And now I have to fabricate a British flag for the Flag House (the last block!)
Bye for now,

Doei,

Jane

Church on the Hill and an 89 year old..........Kerkje op de heuvel en een 89 jarige...

Almost every village has a church, and this one is no exception. I asked Caleb what he would like me to write on the church, and without hesitation he said 'Jesus is coming soon'. I have to put some 'things' on the hills, but I have to think about that. A lot of thinking will have to be done before this quilt is finished....!

The house had to have a chicken on the roof, and I had already prepared the pattern, when I suddenly came across this while cleaning a kitchen cupboard. Years ago my favourite aunt gave us a pot with lovely plum-jam, and this was the fabric she had used for the cover.....yes, a chicken....!

The chicken was a little on the light side, but I thought that it would look fine against the blue sky. The legs I embroidered, as they were just too fine for applique (I thought).

Talking about birds, when I was embroidering the legs, there was a loud bang against the window. And there on the concrete outside, sat a dazed sparrow-hawk. I think he must have just missed that little sparrow he had his beady eye on..! Look at that beak! (click to see it bigger).

My workroom is looking nice and tidy again (how long will that last?), with a beautiful hard floor. Every time I go in there I enjoy looking at it!

But, you will say, what about the 89 year old? We have a new inhabitant, who will be 90 next year....

Ever since I was small I have wanted one of these, and now she is here at last. It was fun to sort out the drawers, you name it, it was there! The owner had a stroke 3 years ago, and could no longer use it. So now I am hoping to practice my piecing skills (non existent at the moment). Who knows, one day.....!
And last night I looked up from my applique, and saw this:

Now I shall carry on with the penultimate block of Caleb's 'All Around the Town' quilt.
Tada (as they say in Wales)

Nu ga ik verder met het op een na laatste blok voor Caleb's quilt 'All Around the Town'.
groetjes
Jane

Old McDonald had a Farm......

It is done - the farm is finished, complete with cows and sheep. Only, the sheep are not stitched down yet, because first I have to attach the next block.

Those cows, cheating really, just cut them out of a nice fabric with cows in, and applique them on a different background (lovely farmland fabric from Stegeman in Staphorst), and they look quite life-like. I am glad there is a nice word for it, "Broderie Perse", otherwise I wouldn't feel so happy, probably.
The cows look as if they have strayed from their own grass field though....perhaps they were fed up with always grass....

I am getting distracted all the time, because the skies are so beautiful, and I keep wanting to look outside. there are some very dark skies at times, and some majestic clouds. Everey so often we get a very small shower. Perhaps just as well, when I think of the floods in Northern England and Scotland...

Enjoy your day!

Hartelijke groeten,
Jane

Half Around the Town.........

Since coming back from Holland I haven't really been able to get going. I still feel that I have nothing to say, which of course, is not true. My sewing room looks as if a bomb has hit it, because I have to move everything into the spare room. Next week I am getting a new wooden floor, instead of the old carpet that hangs on to all the threads..... But why do I have so much stuff...?
However, I am at last working on the next block for Caleb's quilt, and I have put together half of the blocks, so that it is beginning to look like something. All sorts of things still have to be added, and the hills need stitching down, but it is a beginning...

During the next week or so I shall have to think about what sorts of things to add to the hill-gardens. There are so many possibilities, I just need some inspiration.
But now I have to go and see some of your blogs, because I have been dreadfully neglecting you all !
Have a nice day!

Groetjes
Jane
