Laatste steekjes..........Last stitches.....

The last stitches take so long...! I want to finish this quilt, and it is almost done. A quilted surface always looks lovely in the sun....

Nice and cuddly for when it gets cold.
I need to do a few more pieces of sky....

...and here and there a few bits that I had forgotten, like the small roof on the tiny Welsh cottage. I was not sure how to quilt that, but my DH had a wonderful idea. 'Croeso', which means 'Welcome'.
It is difficult to see it on the photo...(click on it to see it better)

One hill by the sea had to be done, and I decided to quilt a leaf round the whitest leaves. It was a surprise to see that the darker parts formed starfish...

The narrow road with the cars on has been done too. This was what Teresa did with hers. She quilted all the addresses in it where she had lived. Caleb is now in his 4th home, so I quilted one address in each side.
His first town in Wales was called Ynysybwl. Isn't that a lovely name.....?

In a few days time it is Caleb's birthday, so I shall give it to him then. to celebrate, I am going to put the pattern as a Give-away on my blog. If you like this pattern, keep an eye on my blog!
And now I am going back under the quilt to quilt the last stitches. It is really autumn here, with wonderful strange skies. Sometimes everything looks pink...

Soms lijkt alles roze....
Enjoy today!

groetjes

In Holland staat een huis........There is a house in Holland......

What is this?
A beautiful stained glass window?

Wat is dat nou?
Een mooi glas in lood raampje?
It does look a bit like one, but it is a quilt top which is still growing, made by a very special woman, in a beautiful old house in Holland.

Here you can see how it is the sun, enchanting the fabrics. That is how I felt..... enchanted. And I am not the only one, because the thimble pattern of this quilt has enchanted many people all over the world.
Although it is a busy week, there was time to arrange to visit someone, and to see her quilts.....can you guess?
She lives in a wonderful old Dutch town with a harbour.....

there are a lot of houses with lovely gables....

a nice view over the water......

een lief doorkijkje over het water.....
and there is even a ship on a roof....

and here I stand in front of one of her breath taking quilts...the Nearly Insane....

It is difficult to describe how beautiful it is. But that can be said of all her quilts. Every one is almost more beautiful than the others.  There is something about them that is quite overwhelming.
They look and feel like precious museum pieces, beautifully made and with lovely colours.
And  now I expect you know who it is....?
Yes, Supergoof! (click)

Jawel, Supergoof! (klik)
Can you understand that I could not sleep that night, thinking of all that beauty? I had no idea that her baskets were so incredibly small. I really love them.
Of course I am very happy and thankful that this was possible while staying in Holland.  Thank you, Supergoof!
Have a nice day!

groetjes,

Jane

Tien jaar geleden.........Ten years ago......

I was starting to make a quilt for our daughter. She did not want a sampler quilt, but when she saw my book of Amish quilts, she liked them. But not in those colours.
So off I went to the quilt shop, and bought plain fabrics in the colours she wanted....

In the centre she wanted a landscape with bible texts all around. The hand-quilting was fun, and the whole quilt was finished in about 4 months. It is a big double bed size one, and when I saw it again last week, I was amazed how bright the colours are after lots of washings! Here is a picture of the back..

Last Saturday we went to see a ploughing match, with lots of vintage tractors....

On the way back, we came past the coast of North Pembrokeshire....so beautiful...

And now we are off to Holland for a week.......
Have a nice day

Yes, every spare minute I am quilting, because I want to finish this quilt. Not just because it is Caleb's birthday soon, but because I want to get back to my Baltimore blocks, and Home Sweet Home, and....and.... (I am surprised how using flash with this photo bleaches out the fabrics, but highlights the quilting stitches)..

quilting the little quilts is very hard going, my own fault, because of all the layers of fabric.....

And although I have not quite finished the centre part, I am starting to quilt the border, for variation, and because it is much easier with just the one top layer of fabric..

My beloved thought a cable border would be nice for a boy, so that is what I am doing. I mark the corner first with a chalk pencil, so that I can see the lines really well (left of the template), and for the rest I use a Hera marker, which makes a nice sharp dent in the fabric. It means that I don't have to wash out any marker lines. The chalk just brushes off.
Here you can see a section of the border finished...

Outside are the goldfinches, usually a family of five...(click to see them better)

Have a nice day!

Quiltweer.... Quilting weather...

Last week I was sitting in the garden to quilt my town-quilt....

Every so often the neighbours came to see how I was getting on.....

Since then a lot has happened. I have spent hours behind the PC, written hundreds of emails, all because of an American lady who took payment, but did not deliver orders.
I filed a complaint with the BBB (thanks, Mara!), escalated a claim with Paypal, got Moda (Jeannet's idea) involved.
And at last, after some angry emails, I received my refund this morning via Paypal, so that I could cancel the claim.
Wonderful! What a relief. But.......There are others who have not got this far yet. Some have had a promise (again) that the fabrics will be sent, which hopefully will happen this time. Another lady was regularly paying them with credit card, without ever receiving anything at all, even after phone calls, unanswered emails, and requests to stop the payments, which were unheeded. She has now got a promise of a refund. (And I have just heard that she has received it! Great!)
I really hope that everything will be resolved in the end. All the time and effort will then be worthwhile. But I would urge anyone who has this problem, to keep at it, if necessary involve the BBB and Moda. it seems to work.
And now I can....at last.... continue quilting!
A steamtrain on the roof......

Leuke cirkeltjes in een boom............

Circles in a tree.....

And I have to think of different ideas for the other roofs, because there are quite a few!
I don't mark anything, but 'draw' with my needle. However, sometimes things have to be symmetrical, and my needle doesn't feel like doing that, so I draw a very thin line with my white pencil. You can hardly see it, but it is enough to be able to follow it.... if you click to enlarge, you might be able to see the line on the roof....

And what do I use for quilting?
I am trying out some new (for me) needles. John James no. 11. A little bit larger than what I normally use (12), but there are quite a few layers in this quilt, because I did not cut anything away behind the appliques. A bit silly really, and it makes quilting quite difficult at times....that's why I have already broken two needles.
I use the rocking stitch, but sometimes it gets too much and then I use the stab-stitch.
My quilting thread is YLI ecru, and I always use thimbles, and a 14" hoop.

groetjes

And now I shall start quilting again, nice and cosy next to the woodburner....
Have a nice day,

Jane

Hartjes uit Holland.............Hearts from Holland

The postman came this morning with a fat envelope..........exciting......and yes, the pattern for the hearts doll quilt, with lots of lovely rose fabrics from Inge. I won this at her give away (click).
Thank you, Inge, it is beautiful and it had cheered up my day!

Maar eens even verder quilten.
Nogmaals dank je wel, Inge!

I would love to start on it straight away, but first I need to finish the quilting on the town quilt....
It was lovely to be cheered up with this, because the whole business with Jan Patek seems even worse than I thought..I don't think I have ever written so many emails. And I still have not received my refund from her.

I am beginning to feel a bit sick about the whole thing...!
But I shall carry on quilting now.
Once again, thank you, Inge!
