I love quilts, especially antique quilts, either applique or pieced,
and I want to share my journeys in quilting !

But, my "Threads and Treasures" sometimes include embroidery, painting, or spinning wool
and weaving
.

It is great that you are visiting, and I hope you feel at home here.

"Tutti Frutti Border..."

The border on the right is finished! It is a mixture of allsorts, but it looks nice.
It is mostly the border as it is in the original Bird of Paradise quilt, but not all of it.
From top right down comes first the fruit...

Then two birds who are very contented....

Een paard....

A horse....

Another horse, with two stowaways.....(click on the picture to see it better)

And last of all a squirrel, where there was a vulture in the original...

We won't talk about the weather...The wire in the picture is the phoneline, they are still above ground here..
En nog even de hele rand..

Here is the whole border...

Have a nice day(lovely weather to sit by the fire to start on the last border!)

We are back frrom holiday in the North of England, the Yorkshire Dales.
I have a lot of pictures, so make yourself comfortable with a nice cup of tea, and enjoy!
We were staying in the booking office of the station in Kirkby Stephen, that has been changed into a holiday cottage. It is on the 'Settle and Carlisle' line, which takes you through a beautiful mountainous area with 17 viaducts and 13 tunnels.

We hadden een prachtig uitzicht...

we had a beautiful view....

with a footpath to Kirkby Stephen.....

York was not all that far away, so we went there one day.

And of course I went to see the Quiltmuseum (click). There were beautiful antique quilts, but unfortunately photos were not allowed. This quilt was there, which is on the museum website as well.

York is a beautiful city, with lovely old streets.

mooie tuinen en oude huizen...

beautiful gardens and old houses....

and of course the Castle Museum with antique streets
waar de was buiten hangt

where the washing hangs out

en een leuk antiek stoffen winkeltje..

and a lovely old fabric shop....

Buiten zagen we ganzen

Outside we saw geese

and what about this bike?

When you live in a station you can just step on the train from the front door. The train went over the impressive Ribblehead viaduct

to Settle, where we found a nice cafe with lovely coffee and cake...

On the way back we came through Dent, the highest station in England, with snow fences all around..

There was a little bit of snow left high in the mountains

Near us was a ruin of an old 12th century castle 'Pendragon Castle'

with walls where the trees had almost grown into

Schaapjes op de weg..

Sheep on the road...

een waarschuwing voor rode eekhoorntjes..

a warning sign for red squirrels...

een typische boerderij

a typical farm

met natuurlijk schaapjes...

with lambs of course...

When I saw this landscape I could just imagine Jane Eyre walking there

en opeens was er een hevige hagelbui...

and suddenly there was a heavy hail shower...

But did I manage to do anything to Catalina's quilt?
Well, not a lot of course. But I did start the right side border.

Fijne dag!

And I can carry on with that now...
Have  nice day!

"Tussen de bloemetjes....................In between the flowers"

In between the leaves and flowers are two love birds...

I have put the name of the quilt above them, written with a Pigma pen, and set with a hot iron....

Here are some pictures of the flowers on the left...

..en rechts...

...and on the right...

De hele rand ziet er zo uit.....

The whole border looks like this...

Ik heb hem even boven de blokken gelegd...

You can see what it looks like at the top....

And a photo of the whole so far.....

I also hand washed the backing fabric. That purple was so strong that I was afraid all the water would go purple. But I was so happy to see that it  stayed totally clear...

Nu kan ik beginnen met de zijkant!
Fijne dag!

Now I can start the side border!
Have a nice day!
