"Home Sweet Home blocks..."

In between the Caswell blocks I have been finishing the Home Sweet Home blocks.
First the strawberry house with my initials...

And the bunny house (do you see them?) with the year on it.

The top three blocks were already sewn together, so yesterday I sat down and stitched the middle blocks together....

Do you really do that by hand? Yes, I just like the soft look better, and it does not take that long, look......

A little later the last row was done...

....and then I could stitch all the rows together. Early this morning before church I made the last stitches, and my beloved was quite willing to hold it up....

But this afternoon the weather was so beautiful that we sat outside - what would it look like on the washing line?
It is almost like stained glass.....

"Would you mind holding it up again in the shade?"

Now I don't want to make the border as it is in the book, because I have a few fabrics that perhaps might look nice, like this dark red one?

Of deze mooie blauwe?

Or this beautiful blue one?

Of misschien roze?

Or perhaps pink?

Of zou deze toch het beste zijn?

Or would this one be the best?

Tomorrow I shall get to work on it.
And I could just leave it hanging in the garden of course, looks quite nice....

Fijne dag!

Have a nice day!

"Autumn..."

The autumn seems to have arrived, because it is suddenly a lot colder.
During the past week I finished this Caswell block....

Actually I had already sewn another little bird on the heart, but then the postman came with a parcel from Holland, from Anne Marieke
In the parcel were not only my favourite peppermints, but as a total surprise also this adorable bird fabric.

Inderdaad, perfect! Dank je wel, Anne Marieke!

I fell in love with it, and thought what a pity it was that I had already sewn on the other fabric, as this one seemed perfect. But...of course that doesn't have to be a problem, because I could use the other one on the back, for the label. I unstitched the other one, and pinned this one on. Indeed, perfect! Thank you, Anne Marieke!

In the meantime I have finished six blocks, in random order, and this is what they look like. It is not a clear photo, because they hang over the back of the settee, and that is a dark corner.

It is a pity that it is suddenly autumn, and colder, because only yesterday I was sitting in the warm and sunny garden, stitching the next block...

And the beautiful oak-leaf hydrangea will soon be turning all red.

Hoe doen jullie zoiets?
Fijne dag!

So I shall carry on stitching by the fire!
Now I am thinking of finishing the first row, so that I can sew them together.
What do you do? Make them orderly in rows, or totally random?
Have a nice day!

"Nog steeds zomer......Still summer..."

Although it is not real quilting weather yet, I have finished another block for my Caswell quilt. It is the beautiful pattern by Corliss Searcey.

I had planned to make the hearts of the blue flowers different, but in the end they  looked better like this. So I took off the old one, and put it in my box with mishaps. Ready to be used for something else like a leaf or flower.

It is still beautiful summer weather here in Wales. But this morning we had a heavy dew and I saw signs of autumn in all the cobwebs glistening in the sun.

Het lijken net rijen pareltjes...

They are just like rows of pearls...

One of my hydrangeas in the garden is turning a beautiful pink.

Vooral met het late zonlicht er doorheen.

Especially with the late sunlight on it.

The swallows are getting ready to leave. but the goldfinches are staying for the winter.

Fijne dag!

Now I am going to work on the next block.
Have a good day!

"...A Mysterious Block.."

That is what my husband said when he saw this block, and I have to admit that it does look a bit mysterious. It is my fourth block for the Caswell quilt by Corliss Searcey. I enjoy searching for different fabrics among my stash. Very often I only have little pieces, and it is always an adventure to see if I can find what I have got in mind.

We have beautiful weather here, sunshine every day, and I have walked a lot in the garden, and taken some photos (inspired by Anne Marieke, who takes wonderful photos), of bees...on an Japanese anemone...

...en op mijn nieuwe kleine sneeuwbes...

...and on my new small Snowberry...

...een vlinder op de lavendel...

....a butterfly on the lavender...

...and this strange little fellow, whose name appears to be Heineken Fly. Someone on the internet suggested it was because with its long nose it could reach parts that other flies could not reach...so beautiful, these little created works of art!

Maandagavond was de Harvest Moon, zo mooi en zo groot..

Monday evening there was the Harvest Moon, so large and so beautiful..

And now I am working on my next block.

Fijne dag!

Have a good day!

"..Bloemen en Besjes.........Flowers and Berries.."

As you know, I am making the Caswell quilt, by Corliss Searcey. The pattern was inspired by the Caswell carpet in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
There are black and white and colour photos of each block in the pattern, and I so enjoy making this quilt. On the left is my journal where I put the colourphotos and write down anything relevant, and also any changes I make.

In the beginning a block always looks a mess....

But with the plastic overlay on top it looks a bit better....

The berries are last....

And after I have embroidered the stems the third block is finished.

Het weer is opeens veel mooier,

The weather is a lot better,

Fijne dag!

but because I cannot walk very far yet, I am carrying on with the following block!
Have a good day!

Jane
