" Een weerbarstige vlinder en een gele bloem.......A stubborn butterfly and a yellow flower"

Another Caswell block is finished, from the pattern by Corliss Searcey, available from Threadbear in Australia.

Do I just produce these blocks without problems?
Sometimes I do, but this one was a real struggle.
Just have a look at the changes in the butterfly and the yellow flowers. This is how it started....

Oh no, much too yellow. So I search for something lighter, but I hardly have any yellow, now why would that be?

Perhaps the soft yellow is the best, and I have to change the butterfly too, because that bothers me. And it needs a different body of course.

But then I have the idea of laying it next to all the other finished blocks. Oh, that yellow is still too loud, I have to find something different. And I don't like the butterfly either.
At last I found the fabric that I used in the first block. Somehow that had got itself with the Stonefields fabrics. Who put that there?

And at last this feels right, so the yellows need some reverse sewing, and the new fabric sewn in its place. The butterfly, who has a new wing, and his first body back again, is fine too. In the meantime I have got five little bodies lying here...;o)
But after all this changing around, I am finally happy with the result, here it is again...

We have new neighbours as well....so I am not the only one who changes things...:o)

....mooie Welsh Black koeien en kalfjes, lekker zwart en wollig.

...nice Welsh Black cows and calves, lovely black and woolly.

Fijne dag!

And now I am waiting for part two of Stonefields. Have a nice day!

"Caswell and Stonefields..."

For the time being I shall carry on with these two projects, Caswell by Corliss Searcey, and the Stonefields block of the month by Susan Smith. I wonder which one will be finished first....
This is my seventh Caswell block (there are 30 blocks in total, measuring 11 x 11 inches)

My first month's Stonefields blocks are finished, but I also have to make 171 hexagon flowers and flying geese for the borders. That is nearly 1200 hexagons! If I had to do that at the end I would most probably go mad, so I have thought up a plan.
Every month I will make 17 flowers and 17 flying geese, and I shall only use the fabrics that I have used in the blocks for that month. That is a nice challenge.
The first flowers....

En de volgende...

And the next ones....

En de laatste voor deze maand...

The last ones for this month....

I use a handy little Clover clip to keep hold of the other side for me. Those little things are so strong!

If this basket gets full up I shall probably have enough.....

While I wait for the next month's Stonefields blocks, I am working on the next Caswell block, with needleturn of course, because I love it and it is so quick....

It rains a lot, and there are a lot of whole or half rainbows - so beautiful!

Fijne dag!

Have a good day!

"Stonefields Sweethearts..."

This week I have been up to my ears in Stonefields blocks and fabrics. this beautiful quilt, designed by Susan Smith, is addictive!
A week ago the first month's patterns came for thirteen blocks, and now they are finished.
First you see the fourth star..

It is not certain if that one will stay in one of the corners, or move to the centre of the quilt. Because a few days later I received this lovely fabric with small cherubs, from Anne Marieke, and this romantic quilt is asking for little angels!

Toen de Orange Peel blokjes...

Then the Orange Peel blocks....

Daarna kwamen de Pomegranates aan de beurt,

After that it was the turn of the Pomegranates,

...and they became sweethearts, you could just write a novel about them. How the little boy next door became the love of her life or something like that. It just fits in with this quilt.

En toen de lekkere St Honore taart...

And then the lovely St Honore Gateau...

...not just one, but two. They remind me of when I lived in Holland, and used to visit a tearoom in Utrecht, where they had wonderful St Honore gateaux.
One of the circles has a bit of the romance again....(click on the picture to see it larger)

As if it isn't cheerful enough, there is Willie's Birthday.

The very last one is the sweet Posy Pot, that reminds me of a little boat with waving flowers.

And now it is waiting for the next pattern, next month.
Not that I shall be bored. I am going to prepare hexagon flowers, and flying geese for the borders, and then there are the Caswell blocks that are lying forgotten on the table.
Till next time!

"Happiness is......"

.....when the postie comes with a parcel. But not just any parcel. This is from Holland, the first part of the pattern for my new project....

Yes, I have fallen for Stonefields, the quilt designed by Susan Smith for a film taken in Ireland.
It was not love at first sight, but the more I looked at photos, the more I liked it..... and suddenly I knew that I definitely wanted to make this quilt, partly because there is so much applique in it.
In Britain there was only a BOM with fabrics, so I ordered the pattern from Coriene.

Hier is nummer 1...

It is a romantic quilt, just like Ireland, full of surprises and lovely pictures and fabrics, and it is big! It will be lovely and warm and cosy to creep under when it is cold.
I started at the beginning, with the corner stars. Susan writes that they should not stand out, so I chose very light fabrics.
Here is number one....

En de tweede.....

And the second one....

En de derde...

And the third one...

Because I love tins, I can put everything I need in this tin.....

And I have a few nice ones for the blocks.

Fijne dag!

Now I am off to make the fourth star.
Have a good day!

"Home Sweet Home Top finished......"

Last night I finished sewing the border on the blocks.
As you can see, I chose the last one. Although I loved the blue fabric, it made the quilt too cool, and the pink one seemed to bleach all the colours. But this one lifts the darks and the lights beautifully. And it still has a lot of pink in it.

Actually it went quite quickly, sewing everything by hand. The fabric by Lecien is rather slippery, so I had the idea of pre-basting the seam, about half an inch from the edge. Just like when I was ten, and had sewing lessons, everything had to be pre-basted.

It did help, I wasn't bothered by pricking pins, and everything stayed nicely together, so that I could easily sew along the seamline.

Then it was time for the mitred corners. I did the same with that. One length of fabric I laid out flat, and the other one I folded double on the top of it, and pre-basted again. Then I could easily applique the seam.

Very quickly the corners were done too, and my quilt top was finished. If you want to make this quilt too, the pattern is in the Home Sweet Home book by Barb Adams and Alma Allen.

Outside the oak leaf hydrangea is getting more and more beautiful.

Fijne dag!

And now I shall carry on with the Caswell blocks, but because I have finished the Home Sweet Home top, I am allowed to start something new and exciting as well. More about that next time.
Have a good day!
