"De laatste bloemetjes...................The last Flowers"

Deze week ben ik als een gek aan het appliceren gegaan. Waarom?
Esther's BOM gaat al gauw van start en ik wil deze quilt gedubbeld hebben voordat het begint!

This week I have been speeding up the applique. Why? Because Esther's BOM starts soon, and I want to have this quilt sandwiched before it begins!

 Dus de laatste bloemetjes werden gemaakt...

So the last flowers were made....

Hier zijn ze, op de laatste rand van Catalina's Paradise quilt. Die is ook bekend als de Civil War Bride of Bountiful Life, of Bird of Paradise quilt.

Here they are, on the last border of Catalina's Paradise quilt. Also known as the Civil War bride, or Bountiful Life, or Bird of Paradise quilt.

Ik heb er echt wel mijn eigen, of liever Catalina's draai aan gegeven.
Zij heeft een poosje geleden een eigen hond gekregen, een Welsh Collie...

I have made it quite different in my own, or rather Catalina's way.
A while ago she got her own dog, a Welsh Border Collie.....

...en die moest er natuurlijk ook op. De zwart witte is een Friese Stabij waar ze hopelijk in September een pup van gaan ophalen uit Nederland. Het zal daar best gezellig worden. Misschien ga ik er nog een 'grondje' onder borduren, dan staan ze niet zo te zweven....

....and of course he had to be on the quilt. The black and white is a Dutch Frisian Stabyhoun. They are planning to got to Holland in September to get a puppy. I am sure they are going to have fun.
Perhaps I will embroider a 'ground' underneath them, then they don't float in the air.....

Er moest wel even een klein vogeltje bij het fruit gemaakt worden....

There had to be a little bird near the fruit ......

En er zijn nog meer vogels natuurlijk....

And there are more birds of course....

En nog maar weer een paard, wnt die zijn zo mooi.....en Catalina houdt van paarden...

Also another horse, because they are beautiful....and Catalina loves horses.....

De kleuren van de fotos zijn een beetje onecht, maar dat komt vast door het weer. terwijl in Nederland iedereen op apaegapen ligt, is het hier vrij koel, maar wel met een vreemde groenachtige lucht.
De puttertjes zijn gelukkig, want die hebben een gezellige nieuwe ontbijttafel...

The colours of the photos are a bit unreal, but I think that's because of the weather. While there is a heatwave on the continent, it is rather cool here, but with a strange greenish sky.
The goldfinches are happy, because they have a nice new breakfast table....

Nu moet er straks nog een vlindertje op een naad, als de rand eraan zit. Die ga ik er morgen met de hand weer aan zetten, en dan zal ik proberen een foto van het geheel te maken!

Later on I have to add one butterfly on one of the seams. I will sew the border to the rest by hand, and then I shall try to take a photo of the whole top!

"Somerset..............."

We zijn pas terug van een weekje in Somerset. Wat was het daar mooi. Vanuit ons hotel konden we in de verte Wales zien over het water.

We are back from a week in Somerset. Oh, it was so beautiful there. From our hotel room we could see Wales in the distance, across the water.

Overal  zagen we cottages met rieten daken........

Everywhere we saw cottages with thatched roofs...

We hebben een mooi kasteel bekekn in Dunster (op de heuvel)...

We visited a beautiful castle in Dunster (on the hill)...

met prachtige paardenstallen...

with beautiful stables....

nog meer huisjes in Dunster....hoe vind je die ronde schoorsteen?

Veel oude stationnetjes met stoomtreinen...

Lots of old stations with steam trains....

Omdat het eindelijk zomer was (nu niet meer..) was het druk op het strand in Cornwall....(Een dagje naar Alan's zus)

Because it was summer at last (not anymore now...) it was busy on the beach in Cornwall....(A day visit to Alan's sister)

Weer op weg naar huis hebben we nog even de oude abdij van Glastonbury bekeken...

On the way back home we visited the old abbey at Glastonbury....

En heb ik nog wat gedaan? Nou niet erg veel eigenlijk. Een begin gemaakt aan de laatste rand van Catalina's Paradise quilt...

And have I done any sewing? Not a lot really. I made a start on the last border of Catalina's Paradise quilt...

En de andere randen aan de blokken gezet (de hele quilt wordt met de hand gemaakt, dus ook het in elkaar zetten)..

And I sewed the other three borders onto the blocks (the whole quilt is made by hand, also the sewing together)...

Nu ga ik vlug weer verder met de laatste rand, want er wacht iets heel spannends......Een nieuwe antieke BOM van een Engelse coverlet uit 1790, en daar ben ik genadeloos voor gevallen.
Allemaal Carin's fout natuurlijk...;o) Zij stuurde me een email..."Psssst...heb je de nieuwe BOM van Esther (klik) gezien?" Nou, nee, dus gekeken, en helemaal gevloerd!!
Heeft iemand nog een paar blikjes tijd te koop?...;o)

Now I shall carry on with the last border, because something very exciting is waiting....... A new antique BOM of an English coverlet from 1790, and I fell in love with it.
It's all Carin's fault..;o) She sent me an email..."Pssst...have you seen the new BOM on Esther's blog (click)?" No, I had not, so I looked, and was sold!!
Has anyone got a few boxes of time for sale?...;o)

"Tutti Frutti Border..."

De rechter rand is klaar! Het is wel een allegaartje van alles, maar het staat wel grappig.
Het is zoveel mogelijk de rand zoals die in de originele Bird of Paradise quilt is, maar niet helemaal.
Van rechtsboven naar beneden komt eerst het fruit....

The border on the right is finished! It is a mixture of allsorts, but it looks nice.
It is mostly the border as it is in the original Bird of Paradise quilt, but not all of it.
From top right down comes first the fruit...

Daarna twee vogeltjes die het wel zien zitten daar...

Then two birds who are very contented....

Een paard....

A horse....

Nog een paard, met twee verstekelingen aan boord....(click op de foto om het beter te zien)

En dan een eekhoorntje, waar in het origineel weer zo'n roofvogel zat..

And last of all a squirrel, where there was a vulture in the original...

Over het weer zullen we het maar niet hebben...De lijn in de foto is de telefoonlijn, die hangen hier nog steeds in de lucht...

We won't talk about the weather...The wire in the picture is the phoneline, they are still above ground here..

"Op een klein stationnetje...............A small railway station"

We zijn weer terug van een vakantie in het Noorden van Engeland, de Yorkshire Dales.
Ik heb heel veel fotos, dus ga er maar even gezellig bij zitten met een kopje koffie.
Wij waren op het station van Kirkby Stephen, in het vroegere kaartjesverkoop kantoor dat veranderd is in een vakantiehuisje. Het ligt aan een spoorweg, de 'Settle and Carlisle Line', die door een prachtig berggebied gaat, met 17 viaducten, en 13 tunnels.

We are back frrom holiday in the North of England, the Yorkshire Dales.
I have a lot of pictures, so make yourself comfortable with a nice cup of tea, and enjoy!
We were staying in the booking office of the station in Kirkby Stephen, that has been changed into a holiday cottage. It is on the 'Settle and Carlisle' line, which takes you through a beautiful mountainous area with 17 viaducts and 13 tunnels.

We hadden een prachtig uitzicht...

Omdat York niet zo ver weg was, zijn we daar ook een dag geweest.

York was not all that far away, so we went there one day.

En natuurlijk ben ik ook in het Quiltmuseum (klik) geweest. Er waren prachtige antieke quilts, maar jammer genoeg mocht ik geen fotos maken. Deze quilt, die ook op de museum website staat, heb ik ook gezien.

And of course I went to see the Quiltmuseum (click). There were beautiful antique quilts, but unfortunately photos were not allowed. This quilt was there, which is on the museum website as well.

York is een prachtige stad, met mooie oude straatjes.

York is a beautiful city, with lovely old streets.

en natuurlijk het Castle Museum, met antieke straatjes

and of course the Castle Museum with antique streets

waar de was buiten hangt

en een leuk antiek stoffen winkeltje..

and a lovely old fabric shop....

Buiten zagen we ganzen

Outside we saw geese

en wat denk je van deze gezellige fiets?

Als je op een station woont, kun je zo uit de voordeur op de trein stappen. Die ging over het prachtige Ribblehead viaduct

When you live in a station you can just step on the train from the front door. The train went over the impressive Ribblehead viaduct

naar Settle, waar een leuk cafe was met lekkere koffie en gebak..

to Settle, where we found a nice cafe with lovely coffee and cake...

Weer terug langs Dent, het hoogste stationnetje in het land, met overal sneeuw hekken.

On the way back we came through Dent, the highest station in England, with snow fences all around..

Er was zelfs nog wat sneeuw hoog in de bergen

There was a little bit of snow left high in the mountains

Dichtbij ons was ook een ruine van een kasteel, 'Pendragon Castle' uit de twaalfde eeuw

Near us was a ruin of an old 12th century castle 'Pendragon Castle'

met muurtjes waar de bomen bijna in vergroeid waren

Toen ik dit landschap zag, zag ik in mijn gedachten Jane Eyre daar lopen

When I saw this landscape I could just imagine Jane Eyre walking there

en opeens was er een hevige hagelbui...

and suddenly there was a heavy hail shower...

Maar heb ik zelf nog iets gedaan aan Catalina's quilt?
Nou, niet erg veel natuurlijk. Maar ik ben wel begonnen met de rand aan de rechterkant.

But did I manage to do anything to Catalina's quilt?
Well, not a lot of course. But I did start the right side border.

En daar kan ik nu weer mee verder...
