"A bird in spring..."

With the coming of spring the fourth block of my 'Eliza Jane' was finished.

It is always so exciting to start a new block

Van alles komt er bij...

Gradually it starts to build up...

Het vogeltje paste precies op de tak...

The bird was just right for the branch...

Suddenly it snowed again, not nice for the daffodils on the other side of the lane...

All the little parts that don't look good after all, go in a nice tin, maybe they will be used next time.

Een bloem van zijde..

A flower made of silk..

And a lovely journal in which I write everything to do with the quilt, for example dates and other things that are happening while I am making the blocks.

When we went to church there were visitors...

In the meantime I had prepared the first border. Four borders of 90 inches were not really something I wanted to do at the end...

First stems and leaves, the first layer...

I draw around the freezerpaper with a Clover white pen, but of course a white pencil is also possible.

Some rosebuds have to be done in reverse applique. I left the freezerpaper for the picture. Normally I take it off while I am stitching.

There are 14 of these rosebuds in de border...

Then my husband calls me as there is a beautiful cloud above the snowy top.

En is dit geen schatje?

Isn't this a sweetie?

De ondergaande zon geeft de bergen soms zo'n mooie kleur.

At sundown the mountains sometimes take on a beautiful colour.

Intussen ga ik verder met de rand.....

And I carry on with the border.....

Fijne dag!

Happy Stitching!

Jane

what a cute little lamb - I love seeing the farm animals - once of my nieces has a farm and and lots of animals. I would love them but my husband has no interest I wouldn't be able to do all the work myself. Your applique is so pretty, I will start a piece soon and know I will need to take my time so I can go all the way around the quilt and not just do one corner.

Such a gorgeous, gorgeous block! The flowers have so much detail. Beautiful! The border does sound a bit daunting but not doing them all at once is a good idea.

I love your block and little bird. It’s wise to begin the borders while stitching the blocks. It’s too daunting to face all four appliqué borders at the end. Thanks for sharing your process and the wonderful scenery.

Another beautiful block! Thank you for sharing your process. Your churchyard is charming with its guests. Do they visit often?

A lovely post, blending the detail of the applique with distant sights like that cloud above the snowy peak..

I love Spring and lambing :) My extended family were Scottish hill sheep farmers and I loved to visit and feed the orphan lambs :). You block is beautiful, the bird is just right in the centre, looking forward to seeing this one progress.

Dear Jane

Spring is always such a fun season, with nature just waking up. With bunnies, sheep and all the beautiful flowers. I love your little tin to keep all the ones that did not quite make it for this quilt. Keeping it all in one place, easy to find for when you need it in the future. The journal, like a diary to read and visit, the story and the weave of our lives, intertwined with the fabrics we fuse together to write the story. Those leaves and stems which takes a while to sew down, but what fun it is to then add all the beautiful blooms one and the berries and the birds, to finish an applique piece. Thank you for the cute photo of the little lamb!

Such a wonderful block, but oh, the length of the borders! Certainly a long term project, I imagine

Your fourth Eliza Jane block is lovely, the bird so sweet! The border will be incredible, but I am afraid would be too daunting for me. Love your idea or a tin with unused pieces and also the journal, great practical ideas! Loved the sweet lamb and lovely landscapes! Stitch on!

Please tell me how you transferred all the drawings on to the blocks and is that first picture a long length of paper with pattern on it? I am snowed as to how to do such a length on fabric by hand. Please help.
