"Sarah and Mary...."

Er zijn weer een paar blokken af van de Sarah Morrell quilt. Het patroon is van Di Ford, maar zij ontwerpt ook zulke prachtige reproductie stofjes. In de Windermere serie is een mooi panel, met een boeketje bloemen in een cirkel. Het boeketje heb ik er uit geknipt, en de cirkel geappliqueerd op een mooi stofje.

I finished some more blocks for the Sarah Morrell quilt. The pattern is by Di Ford, but she has also designed beautiful reproduction fabrics. In the Windermere line there is a lovely panel, with a bouquet of flowers in a circle. I cut out the bouquet, and appliqued the circle onto a lovely fabric.

Inmiddels was blok 18 ook af,

In the meantime I had finished block 18 as well,

 ...en was ik roosjes aan het knippen voor een van de broderie perse blokken...

..and I was cutting roses for one of the Broderie Perse blocks....

toen ik opeens een ander boeket vond dat me heel erg aan de poezie albums van vroeger deed denken


when I found another bouquet that reminded me of my old autograph books that I had when I was a child.

 Al heel gauw was die ook af.

Very soon that one was finished too.

Tussendoor hadden we een paar donkere natte dagen en heb ik scones gebakken, heerlijk bij de koffie.

Sometimes we had a few dark, damp days, and I baked scones, lovely with coffee.

Toen was het opeens prachtig weer en gingen we wandelen.

Then the weather suddenly turned beautiful and we went for a walk.

Wie zegt dat schapen alleen maar gras eten??

Who says that sheep eat only grass??

Deze boom was ook al zo mooi in de zon.

This tree was so beautiful in the sunshine.

En toen kwam ik een mooi bloemenstofje van Mary Koval tegen, dus die heb ik ook op een achtergrond geappliqueerd. Het lijkt net een ouderwets poezie plaatje.

Then I came across a lovely floral by Mary Koval, so I appliqued that on a background as well. It is just like an old picture from a Dutch child's autograph book.

Tussendoor ben ik bezig met deze vogels, maar dat gaat langzaam!

In between other things I am working on these birds, but that is a slow job!

En de schaapjes worden ook uit het weiland gehaald...

The sheep are taken out of the field...

...met hond en quadbike de weg op. 

....onto the road with dog and quadbike.

ook ben ik bezig met het volgende blok van Mary Simon.
Hier zie je het patroon. Ik heb geloof ik elf blokken af, en ik probeer de originele zo getrouw mogelijk na te maken..

I am also working on the next Mary Simon block. Here is the pattern. I have finished eleven blocks, and I am reproducing the original as closely as possible...

Sarah Morrell and Lambs!!.........Sarah Morrell en lammetjes!!

Er zijn weer een paar blokken af voor de Sarah Morrell quilt van het patroon van Di Ford. Het blauw is wat donker op de foto.

Another few blocks are finished for the Sarah Morrell quilt. The patterns is by Di Ford. The blue is a bit too dark in the photo.

Hier kun je het beter zien. Het duurde wel een tijd voordat ik naar mijn gevoel de juiste stofjes bij elkaar had gezocht! En toen veranderde ik het stofje voor de ster en de puntjes toch nog weer:)

Here it is better. It took quite a while before I had found the right fabrics that I thought would go together. And even then I changed the fabrics for the star and the points again:)

 
Maar eindelijk was het zover, en kon ik de deeltjes op freezerpaper strijken en witte lijntjes erlangs tekenen op de stof.

But at last I could iron the freezer paper templates onto the fabric and draw white lines around it.

Ja, zo leek het me wel wat.

This looked quite nice.

Dinsdag kwamen Nicholas en Catalina heel onverwacht een dagje, helemaal uit Worcestershire! Wat leuk was dat! En Nicholas had iets moois voor me gemaakt wat ik kon gebruiken voor mijn blokken, een mooi werkblad! (zie volgende foto)

On Tuesday  Nicholas and Catalina came totally unexpected for the day, from Worcestershire! That was so lovely! And Nicholas had made something for me that I could use for my blocks, a lovely work-tray! (see the following picture!)

Het was zo leuk om hier aan te werken. Ik appliqueerde helemaal om de blauwe 'bladeren', zonder ze eerst aan elkaar te zetten, en het gelukte! Het beertje Septimus houdt toezicht.

It was so much fun to work on this block. I decide to applique all around the blue 'leaves' instead of piecing them together first. My little bear Septimus keeps an eye on it.

Intussen voel ik me nog steeds niet helemaal de oude, hoewel de hoest langzamerhand beter wordt. Maar soms voel ik me nog wel zoals Anne of Green Gables in dit plaatje (klik op de foto om te vergroten).

In the meantime I still don't feel totally well, although the cough is slowly disappearing. But sometimes I still feel like Anne of Green Gables in this picture (click on the picture to see it bigger). 

Dit was ook een leuk blok met broderie perse, en die leuke randen van driehoekjes eromheen.

This was also a nice block to make, with the broderie perse, and the edges of triangles. 

Het leuke van deze quilt is dat je van alles doet, niet alleen broderie perse maar ook piecen en 'gewone' applique.

The good thing about this quilt is that there are different techniques, not just broderie perse, but also piecing and 'normal' applique.

Wat een zootje! Nog een heel gedoe om ze allemaal weer op volgorde te krijgen. Net een legpuzzel :)

What a mess! It was quite a job to get them all in the right order. Just like a jigsaw:)

En dan wordt het steeds leuker. Achter de broderie perse ligt nog het freezerpaper wat ik er achter had geplakt zodat ik kon zien hoeveel ruimte ik beschikbaar had.

And then it is so much fun to watch the progress. The white behind the broderie perse is the freezerpaper that I had ironed on the back to see how much space I had.

En nu is het tijd voor weer een nieuw blok, deze keer weer 'gewone' voor mij needleturn applique. Ik doe deze quilt niet vanaf het begin, maar zoek steeds een blok uit wat me wel leuk lijkt om te doen.

And now it is time for a new block, this time with 'normal' applique, of course needleturn for me. I am not making the blocks in order, but just choose a block that I feel like doing.

Eerst maar even om de lijntjes van het patroon knippen. Want die achtergrondstof zit erachter, en als je daar in knipt......

First I cut around the lines, which is tricky with the background fabric behind it. The idea of cutting into that....

Maar alles gaat goed, en ik kan nu een heel eind needleturnen, want voordat ik om al die lijntjes van dat blok ben....

But it all goes well, and I can start to needleturn all around the lines. It will take some time before I have got around the whole blok....

En ze zijn er weer! De lammetjes! Ik ben nog niet echt buiten geweest, maar mijn lief vanmorgen wel....

They are back! The lambs! I have not really been outside but my husband went out this morning.....

En als er dan een trein langs komt, en moeder gaat rennen, moeten we wel mee, zo hard mogelijk!

And when a train comes by, and mum starts running, you have to make sure that you keep up!

We hebben wat sneeuw gehad, maar alleen op de bergen die we vanuit ons huis kunnen zien. Wel mooi trouwens!

We did have some snow, but really only on the mountains that we can see from our house. A lovely sight!

Sarah's Star

Dit nieuwe blokje voor Sarah Morrell was zo leuk om te doen!

This Sarah Morrell block was such fun to make!

Eerst even vlug neerleggen om te zien hoe het gaat worden...

First I put it the right way up quickly to see what it would look like...

Sarah Morrell is een patroon van Di Ford in Australie, die het heeft getekend naar aanleiding van een antieke quilt uit 1843. 

Sarah Morrell is a pattern by Di Ford in Australia, who made it based on an antique quilt from 1843.

Maar het is heel triest dat Di nu een een zeer zeldzame vorm van leukemie heeft.

But it is very sad to hear that Di has now been diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia.

Gelukkig is ze heel positief over de behandeling die ze gaat ondergaan, en ze heeft de steun van quilters over de hele wereld die allemaal met haar meeleven en voor haar bidden.
Dus als ik deze quilt verder maak zal ik ook heel veel aan Di denken.

But she is very positive about the treatment she is going to get, and she is supported by quilters from all over the world, who are praying for her and sending well wishes.
So while I work on this quilt I will think of Di very often.

Zelf zit ik ook nog in de lappenmand, met een akelige hoest die maar niet weg wil!
Gisteren kwam de buurvrouw met iets lekkers, zodat ik niet hoefde te koken. Zo lief!!
 
I am still not well, with a cough that does not want to leave! Yesterday our neighbour came with something nice which meant that I did not have to cook! How sweet was that!

Sarah Morrell

We hebben dit jaar een nieuwe logee in huis. Haar naam is Sarah Morrell. Ze heeft al veel eerder willen komen, maar ze mocht er nooit in, want ik had het veel te druk met quilts maken voor iedereen in onze familie.
Ze brengt wel heel veel moois met zich mee....

This year we have someone staying in our house. Her name is Sarah Morrell. She has been wanting to come for years, but she wasn't allowed in, because I was too busy making quilts for the whole family.....
She does bring some beautiful things with her....

Ze voelt zich al helemaal thuis....

She has already made herself at home....

Het is wel een veeleisende dame...

And she is taking over... 

Ondanks dat ik in de lappenmand zit met een virus dat de rondte doet, moet ik maar gewoon meedoen....

Although I have caught a nasty virus, and don't feel very well, I just go along with her demands....

Maar dat is ook wel fijn, want het leidt af van de keelpijn en het hoesten...

But it is good in some ways, because it is a distraction from a sore throat and a lot of coughing...

 Want ik moet me goed concentreren op hoe het allemaal in elkaar moet..

Because I have to concentrate on how everything fits together...

En needleturn is altijd fijn om te doen...

And needleturn is always fun to do... 

Vooral als het steeds mooier wordt....

Especially when the result is this....

Soms is er zomaar een verrassend blok - geen applique- niets in elkaar zetten, zomaar een mooi plaatje...

Sometimes there is a surprise block no piecing, no applique, just cut it out of the fabric (thank you Donna!)

En een blok opnieuw tekenen, gewoon omdat ik de originele mooier vindt, is ook wel leuk om te doen, maar al die extra naadjes.......was dat eigenlijk wel zo'n goed idee?

Re-drawing a block, just because I prefer the original, yes, that is fun too, but all those extra small seams.....was it really such a good idea after all?

Uiteindelijk is hij toch af, en ik begin me intussen al wat beter te voelen.

At last this block is finished, and I am beginning to feel a little better.
