"Antique quilts"

The new block is not progressing very fast - too many wonderful distractions here! :)

But it is a rather complicated block, with lots of layers.

Before I can sew this flower, all the underlying pieces have to be finished.

The centre of the flower, with several pieces, will go on top of these petals.

And then I saw something on the internet (click here to see the details)

Onderweg zagen we mooie bloesems...

I had to go there of course. My husband was happy to come, especially as there is a preserved railway in Leyburn....
On the way we saw some beautiful blossoms...

En een prachtig Swaledale schaap...

A beautiful Swaledale sheep...

met schattige Swaledale lammetjes.

with lovely Swaledale lambs.

De quilts waren achter glas...

The quilts were behind glass

but that did not matter, because it was easy to look at them.

Hexagonnen...

Hexagons..

en nog meer...

and some more...

I totally fell in love with these beautiful pieces from 1780.

Een close-up..

A close-up.

En dit zijn "antieke" kleurtjes.......?

And these are "antique" colours...?

...deze ook, uit 1780.

...this one also, from 1780.

And here is another one, also antique....

This one was about a century later, the colours a little softer.

Nearly home, just down the road, we saw that the cows are out! Here is a lady with several small calves.

I suddenly saw one of the calves drinking..

"Of ben je soms jaloers?"

"Or are you jealous?"

I have also started quilting my Baltimore quilt, which I finished in 2011....

Fijne dag!

Have a nice day!

Jane

There sure are a lot of pieces in that block, but you're doing such beautiful work on it. How fortunate that you were able to go to the exhibit. It looks like there was some very impressive quilts to see, and a lovely drive too.

Groetjes,
Floor

So nice to see your work. So many quilters use glue and starch to make their pieces and really miss the joy of the traditional way. I am also a traditionalist! Your Blocks are lovely.

Dear Jane it is all ways like reading a lovely coffee table book when I visit your blog, it is such a treasure of lovely photos and so many different things to see. Looking at those lovely old quilts on your blogI can just imagine how beautiful the colours were up close and personal. Had to laugh as so many people think fussy cutting is new LOL I'm hand quilting a 1930's hexagon quilt at present these hexagons are just under 1 inch on the sides and it is taking me for ever to hand quilt each one of those we hexagons. SO I sure admire these old hexagon quilts, would you believe I have another top around the same time that is waiting to be sandwiched and quilted ???? It was so lovely to drive through the country side with you and see the landscape and the animals with their babies. You are all ways a inspiration to me. looking forward to seeing more photos of your 2011 quilt as you quilt it.
Hugs Glenda

Dag Jane.
Fijne Pinksterdagen.
Groetjes, Heleni

Hi Jane such a lovely blog thanks for sharing your, day out, how wonderful that it was close enough for you to see it. Interesting to see all the fussy cutting and so many quilters think it's a new idea LOL. Love them Sgt. Colours of the one that would of been made around 1886. Lots of hexagon quilts back then and so popular even today. Fell in love with the wee lambs Ohhh how I'd love one of those for a pet, as a child I'd have one or two pet lambs every year to look after my dad had about 2000 sheep on his farm in NZ. Hugs Glenda

Hope all’s well with you, Jane, I hope to hear from you soon.

Jacobiene said...

Estoy acolchando mi "Bird of Paradise" y me falta tu inspiración para empezar otro nuevo.
Saludos y buenos deseos.

Be still my heart . . . your quilts are amazing. They pretty much take my breath away and make my small attempt at quilting seem so low end. Works of art.
