A house. a star, and Mary Simon...........Een huisje, een sterretje en Mary Simon...

Septimus is very happy. His house is finished, complete with stars, a garden, and 24 berries. I made a few more light berries, and used the same cards so that I could get 24, specially for him.... (click on the photo if you want a bigger picture)

Septimus is helemaal gelukkig.
The Welsh Brecon Star quilt has grown a little too.....

Because I always want some applique to do, I prepared the first layer of the next Mary Simon block - the Album. For in my easy chair by the woodburner, with my daylight lamp....
First I pinned all the first layer pieces under the overlay with the pattern on it....

Then the overlay is taken off, so that I can start basting...

And when that is finished I can start sewing at last..... that sounds as if I don't like the prep work. Actually I love all of it. Every new block is like a journey of discovery. First I have to try and find the right fabrics, which is a wonderful excuse for looking through my fabrics. Then drawing all the tempates on freezer-paper, which helps me to get to know the pattern...
Those have to be cut out, which I love doing, just like in the infant school. Then they have to be ironed onto the fabric. I draw around them with my white Clover pen, cut them out, and then at last I can start....

Oh, I thought you might like to see a close-up of one of our neighbours, who loved posing...

O, en hier nog even een close up van een van onze buren die best graag wilde poseren....

Nice and cuddly, don't you think?
Enjoy your day!

Lekker knuffeltje he?
Fijne dag!

Jane

Prachtig blok in wording.

Your Mary Simon block is just lovely. I love the blue ombre fabric, perfect for a Baltimore Album. I have not commented since you showed pictures of recent Baltimore Album, it is just beautiful.

Happy Stitching,
Cheri

A beautiful house for Septimus and the star quilt is looking fabulous. And, I would like to give your neighbour a big kiss on the nose. So cute!

I always like to see how others prepare to applique. I tried using an overlay once and had a little problem with movement, but that will not stop me from trying again. I see you baste all your pieces down at once; I just do one at a time with pins. Do they not start to unravel from handling? That block is going to be a beauty!

Fijn weekend,
Inge
