Christmas...2018...Kerst

Christmas is a good time to start something new.
A Broderie Perse block?

Yes, it is going to be the first block of the Sarah Morrell quilt (pattern by Di Ford) that I have wanted to make for years. But every time other quilts had to be made, and when I had a look at the pattern I quickly put it away again in a deep drawer.

But now Hope has her quilt, and I can start on it at last!

Here it is cut out and laid on the background. The needleturn feast can start!

But first mince pies had to be made, because without them it is not Christmas, says my husband.

Typisch Engels!

Lots of bases and lids, with mincemeat, a sort of raisin  filling  in between. Typically English!

At last they come out of the oven and they look nice!

Early in the morning the sun appears, just for a little while.

An outing to a lovely garden centre with a wonderful gift shop for coffee, and there I find a lovely reading angel!

Google is showing applique to get a Christmas feeling!

And once again on Christmas Eve!

Then I suddenly thought that I should finish this Mary Simon block too...

But at the moment this is more irresistible!

Fijne feestdagen!

Enjoy the Holidays!

Jane

A new project is so exciting! This is going to be lovely! The flowers are so pretty. A needleturn feast indeed :0) I love the early morning picture. The google “appliqués” as well - I hadn’t noticed them. Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Your block is looking lovely so far. I have made a few of the Morrell blocks. It is on my ufo list for 2019 to do the rest of the broderie oerse blocks but I am doing mine by machine this time since I have been doing several other quilts by hand.

Oooooh de Morrell, hetzelfde patroon van Di. Heb ik ook nog liggen. Very tempting LOL

Groetjes,
Floor

What stunning Broderie Perse fabrics! I never seem to come across good candidates for Broderie Perse here locally, but then I don't see a lot of handwork projects being done here locally either, sadly. I love that picture of your granddaughter. She's such a cutie. Your Mary Simon block is looking good. You have so many projects that are destined to be heirlooms. Is there actual "meat" in your mincemeat pies? If so, what kind is it? If not, why do they call it mincemeat? Just curious :) I learn so much from you :)

If I were more brave I'd strart the quilt along with you. I'm halfway through Dear Daughter from Gay @ sentimental stitches. It's an easy applique pattern for the most part, which is good for refreshing my needleturn skills. I will be watching along your Morrel journey & if you think of any good needleturn tips I would be very appreciative. Happy sewing!

What lovely things you share. I am in love with applique and have patterns for Stonefields and Caswell but hesitate to jump in. My formerly British hubby also loves mincemeat and we have tarts every Christmas. Hope you keep blogging and a happy new year to you.

I love that you will be making the Sarah Morrell quilt! I have been working on one for a while, this will encourage me to get mine back out and make some more blocks. I must say this quilt is a challenge for me. I find some of the pieced blocks difficult. I may use English paper piecing for some of them, we'll see. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful blocks (Your mincemeat pies look yummy!)

Prachtige omgeving daar.
Groetjes Sylvia.

your mince pies look wonderful - I do not care for mince but could try that with a different filling. The Morel Quilt was on my list for awhile but then I changed my mind as I knew I would most likely never finish it - good luck to doing yours.

Te he echado de menos.

I love your block! I made lots of blocks of this quilt a few years ago from a Dutch quilt shop BOM but my skills were not good enough and I abandoned it :) I really want to start over with new fabrics!
