"Oranje...........................Orange"

As someone who is native Dutch, I wanted to celebrate the new Dutch king in some way, even though I live in Wales. this morning I had to go to the Post Office early, so on the way back I called in at the supermarket, to get some flowers. And they had two bouquets of orange roses...!!!

I have watched it all live on the internet, and it was fantastic. I so enjoyed everything, the abdication, the lovely speech of the new king, with his beautiful new queen next to him, and the princesses. Some of it was quite moving, especially singing the national anthem of course....
So, I have not done much today, just two yellow-orange rosebuds on the flower border.....

Tot de volgende keer!

Till next time!

"Bloemetjes...................Flowers"

The top border of Catalina's Paradise quilt is full of flowers......

...en natuurlijk komen er ook blaadjes bij......

...and of course lots of leaves too.....

Almost all the flowers are finished. I wonder what else will appear in the border, only flowers and leaves would be a bit boring perhaps.......?

This morning the courier came with a large parcel, a whole bolt of Kona Snow, 15 yards of beautiful creamy white fabric, for one of my next applique projects....... (It is lying on a very old antique Welsh quilt, which is nearly falling apart.) I ordered it from Sew and Quilt in the UK.

In expectation of the new Dutch king the sky was coloured orange!

Fijne dag, en veel plezier morgen!

Have a nice day!

"Uiltjes..........................Owls"

The first border is finished. It went slower than usual, because I had a lot of back ache, but the worst is over now.
There is an owl in the border....

But one is a bit lonely, and here are two more....

Voordat je het weet zijn er drie....

Before you know it, there are three!

Have a look at Mienke's blog (click), she really had three owls in her tree!
Thank you to all those who helped me to find that photo again!
A bird is flying into the border as well.....

And here you can see the whole border......I think that I shall applique or embroider my initials and date underneath the owls. There is room for it....

I have put it by the blocks, so that you can see the effect as a whole...

The last few days have been very misty here. In the evening you see the sea mist rolling in....

....and the next day you see hardly anything, just white mist. That is not very cheerful. But.....then the postman came with a lovely parcel, wrapped in bright spring-like paper....

Leuk he? Dank je wel, Elaine!

Because I had won a give away at Elaine's blog! (click) It was almost like my birthday, all those nice presents, a lovely book, nice pattern and threads, needlecase, and a sashiko kit. Isn't that generous? Thank you Elaine!

Fijne dag!

Have a nice day!

There are horses in the border too.....these are also in the original quilt, and Catalina loves horses.

They are almost the same as in one of the blocks....

While I was making them, I also saw them during the funeral of Lady Thatcher.....

And they remind me of the beautiful Frisian horses we saw at the palace Het Loo, when they returned to the stables....

This is the first half of the bottom border. it is strange, working on a narrow piece, after the bigger blocks....

The stems are embroidered with whipped stem stitch.

Fijne dag!

Now I am starting the second half, and I have a question. I saw a picture of a tree with 3 owls in it. I think it was on one of the Dutch blogs. I would like to link to that in my next blog, but I cannot remember which blog it was. Can someone help me?
Enjoy your day!

" Een Rand..............A Border"

It is done - all the blocks together before the 15th April!
Yesterday we had a quilt group, and I stitched the last rows. We were all quite excited, because it is such a sight, all those shapes and colours....
Dus we gaan vrolijk verder!

But the fun is not over! There is an applique border around the blocks, with all sorts of things in it. So we happily carry on!
For the border I am using a mixture of things from the pattern, and from the original quilt, so it will be a surprise.
I have no idea, what this shape is, it looks a bit like a funny green vase....And why those hearts? But it looks interesting....

I have put it underneath the blocks, so you get an idea....
Fijne dag!

I am already curious to see what the border will look like! You too?
Have a nice day!

"Halverwege.........................Half way"

Catalina and Nicholas stayed with us over the past days.
I put all the blocks on the floor, so that Catalina could see her quilt in progress....

And I had baked a Dutch Appeltaart, which disappeared quickly...!

They brought Rosie......a lovely Border Collie....

While they took her for a long walk, I could sew the first rows together, by hand. So half the blocks are as they should be!

In the meantime spring is here at last! The robin has been singing....

He loves to sit on the handle of the old plough.
Fijne dag!

Now I can stitch the next two rows together. I wanted to finish all the blocks by mid April, and I think I might achieve it..!!
Have a nice day!

"Een haantje en een hennetje........A Cockerel and a Hen"

These two are not very happy together.....
The pheasant hen wanted to see what it was like in a chicken run...(we are not the only ones who are nosy...)
But the cockerel is a Welsummer, and he doesn't like intruders.

Dus mijnheer Haan zegt heel boos: "Wegwezen!"

Mr Cockerel is very angry: "Off with you!"
Alright, alright, keep your hair on, I'm going already.....you can see her thinking "Who does he think he is, anyway.."

At the Dutch palace Het Loo are Welsumers too, and we had them in Scotland. Only the best is good enough for them, but they are very handsome!
Here you can see the whole block, the last block!!! The dog in the pattern didn't feel like going on a diet, so I replaced him, and the cat, with sheep. A few of you had guessed it right.

Because Catalina's Paradise is in Wales, there had to be some sheep in the quilt. Mrs Sheep had three lambs, but the groom has got one of them in his arms to show to the bride, do you remember?....

So the other two will have to play together for a while.

Especially for Catalina there is a little purple with gold butterfly.....

Fijne dag!

And now I am going to put the second row together.
Enjoy your day!

"Bij de Rivier.......At the River"

On Easter Monday our daughter with her family came. It was lovely, and she had brought a whole load of home made cakes. They go really well with applique...!

Yesterday afternoon my husband wanted to go to the river Tywi. "Do you want to come?" Yes, why not? We drove past a beautiful old ruined castle, and in the distance are the Black Mountains. They are white now.

We komen steeds dichter bij de bergen...

The mountains come closer....

Then we go past a farm, over the railway, to the river......

This is the old tree that my husband wants to saw up for firewood.......because it is still winter, and very cold...!! Do you see all the stones? I can never resist searching, as there are always some beautiful ones.

We live by this river too, but this was a bit further into the mountains. Prince Charles lives somewhere near this place.
This is the view to the other side. There is not a lot of grass in the fields yet.

My beloved was sawing wood, with a hand-saw, nice and quiet, and I sat with my applique in the Landrover in the sun! A few hours later we went home again.....

Isn't that an amazing grey stone from the river? You could almost use him as a template! In the meantime I had finished the cockerel.

This is what the postman brought from America......I never have to be bored again...;o)

Fijne dag!

Enjoy your day!

"Eekhoorntjes..........Squirrels"

These squirrels look a lot friendlier than the vultures on the original block.

They had hidden some acorns, and it is amazing that they found them again! This will keep them amused, and they certainly won't disturb the birds in the quilt.

But in the last block there is someone who will not leave the birds alone - a cat! There is also a dog that looks as if it should lose some weight.
So what do I do with them? Of course I'll change them.......!
I have put some fabrics there to make you curious.......perhaps you can guess already...?

Op naar het laatste blok!

Now I am off to start the last block!
